tv shows
ok everyone,
that first post seemed to be a success. i am overwhelmed with my following thus far. big day in college basketball. unc got taken down today, which if im not mistaken puts clemson in a tie for the lead in their division. played a round of golf today with matt capps, mike felix, and jimmy barthmaier out at legacy country club. its really a beautiful course. i threw a bullpen on friday, it was 45 pitches and im really starting to feel good. i cant wait for the season to be here.
ok now on to the topic of this post, which is upon request.
tv is a big part of the life of a minor league baseball player, and i am no exception to rule.
i am going to stick with current tv shows, and i dont know if i will be able to keep it in a top 5 format.
1. heroes/ 24
2. prison break
3. lost
4. dexter
5. weeds
others that were very close to the top 5 would be family guy, the simpsons, sportscenter, and baseball tonight. although i thought it would be unfair to include the sports programs because i have some bias.
let me know what you guys think, i love the input.
the interaction is what makes this whole idea great
I guess 24 is my favorite current show. Jack Is Back!! I used to like Prison Break but its gotten kind of silly. Dont you like comedies? I guess Weeds is a comedy, but what about Curb Your Enthusiasm, or 30 Rock, or The Office? Comedy is important, it lowers your blood pressure. Im surprised you mention any ESPN show since they dont seem to know the Buccos exist.
well the buccos have themselves to blame for that.
and actually i love comedy. family guy, the simpsons, weeds, curb your enthusiasm is hilarious, and i love the office.
yea last season of prison break was a bit of a letdown, and i guess thats why the show got cancelled. the first 3 seasons were unbelieveable though.
I don’t watch any of the shows in your top five but I like Scrubs and otherwise my TV is locked on MLB Network or some other sports network. But, regarding Weeds, I LOVE Hunter Parrish. I saw him in Spring Awakening and he was just amazing. I guess my top five would be
1) anything Mets
2) The Secret Life of the American Teenager
3) Scrubs
4) Spongebob
5) Ugly Betty
I guess I like some random shows.

mets at least your not a yankee fan, i would have to ask you to kindly leave. hahaha im just kidding.
scrubs is a good show, i cant really say the same for spongebob. ugly betty isnt really ugly in real life, thats gotta be false advertising.
It’s all about the following:
1. House
2. Outside the Lines
3. 24
4. Lie to Me (CBS)
5. Any Dwight Howard highlight. He’s just unfair.

oooh good call, i really like house. his dry humor cracks me up. i have heard really good things about lie to me. i need to check it out.
Daniel Moskos, I like that you like Weeds and Dexter and Lost. That’s freaking solid.
Keep up the blogging… I hope everyone is being nice, I’m rooting for you 🙂
thanks emma. those 3 are so good. i just finished season 4 of weeds, and i cant wait for season 5
What’s up Moskos? Don’t pay any mind to jokers like cy bixler, this fan interaction is a fantastic idea and I would hate to see sophmoric comments of that nature discourage you from participating. Hardcore Bucco fans have been beaten into the ground over the years but you certainly don’t deserve to bare the brunt of our anger. That being said, I’m disappointed that you failed to list The Wire amongst your favorite television shows. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend that you immediately purchase the entire series on DVD. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
nutting thank you for the kind words. the wire huh. ill have to check it out. whats the show about?
With your obvious hatred of the Yankees, could you ever see yourself playing with them? I mean, after you win your second Cy Young with the Pirates, you will assuridly be too exspensive to keep around and the Yankees tend to pay a high price for high-price talent.
The only current TV shows I watch are The Office and Battlestar Galactica….so I guess your list is cool, I haven’t seen any of those shows, except I saw an episode of Weeds and I just didn’t get in to it at all. Most of my non-baseball/non-football TV watching consists of MST3K, Babylon 5 and Futurama. Otherwise from April to September, despite some awful baseball lately, I’m watching the Pirates. Yah Extra Innings on DirecTV, despite the high price.
By the way, just wanna say I’m really liking the blog so far. I hope you have a great season this summer.
in all honesty, i just cant see myself playing for them. i hope your right about the cy youngs, as you are dead on with the fact that the yankees will purchase anyone and everyone that they want to, regardless of cost
hey danny, have you tried the office? my gf got me a years subscription to netflix (something i would highly suggest to anyone) and if you have an xbox 360, you can stream every episode straight to your tv. steve carell is hilarious… heros is on the netflix streaming as well.
just a little fyi, my sn is a reference to the fact that im in medical school at wvu right now… so i guess you could say that i, like you, am also working my way up thru the minors of my profession haha.
-matt
haha just saw your first post where you said you love the office… my bad
hey matt- yea i have and actually own a few of the seasons. its a really funny show. dwight is rediculous. i have heard from many that i need to invest in the netflix ruku or something like that. it apparently streams right to your tv.oh man, med school, i feel your pain. my girlfriend is currently at the medical university in charleston, sc. she is pa school tho. she is always studying. well good luck with med school
It’s kind of tough to describe, but its basically a gritty crime drama set in Baltimore that does a wonderful job of examining urban culture in America. If you’re into police or organized crime movies, imagine the greatest movie you’ve ever seen extended into 60 hour-long episodes. The character depth and smart humor elevates it past any other show I’ve watched. I was initially skeptical about whether I would like it, but it hooks you in and keeps you coming back like no other show on television. My other favorite shows are Lost and Curb Your Enthusiasm, if that gives you any insight into my tastes.
I’ve been wanting to watch Heroes, but it’s already on Season 3, so it would take me a while to catch up… same thing with 24– my family is obsessed with it! Do you like Family Gu?

thanks for the well wishes my man… yahhh, school for any of the health field professions basically takes over your life for a few years… it’ll be worth it in the long run tho, so maybe when youre the baddass bucco ace in a few years you could put in a good word to dr. patrick demeao for me and help me latch on to the pirates medical staff! haha that would be a dream come true… so you and your gf are doing the long distance thing eh? my gf and i are as well. she currently lives in connecticut saving up money for grad school at duquesne in the fall… it sucks getting to only see each other at most once a month but i guess it makes staying on task and studying a little bit easier
Daniel – thanks for filling my request for your top 5. Quality shows! ‘Lost’ is the only show on your list that I watch but I could easily get into any of those programs you mentioned – there’s only so much you can watch with 3 kids running around. Sometimes I feel like I need to break into a discussion group or something after watching ‘Lost’ as it gets pretty complicated but I can’t miss an episode. I just can’t imagine how they’re going to explain everything in the end! Just loose end after loose end.
You have a top 5 movies list coming next? Now THAT would be a tough one to put together. I imagine Das Boot, Jaws, Alien, Caddyshack, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and any of the Star Wars movies would be up there on my mine but who cares about my list? I’m pushing 40 and work at a bank whereas you throw a ball very fast for a living and could be on the verge of being a household name. Your blog, my man !
UVa fan here. Nice to see us work your tigers last week. 🙂 Anyway, here’s to Clemson dropping Duke and Carolina in the ACC tourney. I really hate blue this time of year.
How bout those PITT PANTHERS
Daniel,
I was wondering what type of pitcher you’d prefer to be in your professional career: a starter or a reliever?
I know you were a reliever in college, but the Pirates have used you in a starting role and you’ve had mixed results. Where do you see yourself in five years?
nutting- that sounds like a show i would enjoy. lost just comtinues to blow my mind with every season.
elizabeth- heroes is worth the catch up. plus 2 of the seasons are shorter in episodes so it might not take as long as you think. anyways, i love family guy, they attack anyone and everyone, so politically incorrect.
the doc- if im an ace i promise ill try to put in a good word. that would be a very cool job. yea we are doing long distance now, its brutal but as sad as it is we are almost used to it by now and have kind of accepted that its going to be this way at least for a little while. its tough but you have to make sure you make the extra effort to communicate. staying on task is alot easier, for her as well im sure, but i would never choose long distance if i had another option. and your welcome my man.
demond- isnt that funny how that happens. your favorites list might have looked very similar to min e in the past. and now it consists of spongebob, and al the other nickelodeon programs. honestly there is no possibly way i could do a top 5 movies, its jsut not possible. i have over 200 dvds in my collection as well as hundreds more that i have seen. i think ill have to leave that to some other time.
pastor- yea that was the letdown game that clemson has every year. no way they should lose to uva, no offense. they came out and played their worst game, and uva played their best. i would love to see us take both of them down. i really hate blue this time of year, however i just dont see us beating unc. we cant match up with their speed.
clarke- enought siad. pitt is a force. as i said earlier i dont think their is a player that can match up with blair. he threw thabeet around like a rag doll. and i would really love to see him play against hansborough. that would be a joke, i think he is just too physical for tyler.
ka- interesting question for a tv shows thread, but hey we might as well have some baseball questions since thats what this blogs main purpose is. the honest answer to that question is that i want to do whatever results in me being in pittsburgh. if thats as a starter or reliever so be it. last year isnt really a good year to base off. my previous high in innings per year was 78 my last year at clemson. last year when i hit that total i was like 7-2 with a 4 era. and that was right around the end of june, i then proceeded to have a 24 era in the month of july. my body /9my legs mostly) just broke down on me, and i really struggled. i ended up throwing 110 innings. this was really important because i made it through without any injuries and i now i know what i need to do to make it through the season without breaking down. this year should be a more telling year of what my future might be
sorry i avoided the 5 years question. lets see what kind of results i get with this answer. i see my self as the pirates number 2 starter. sandwiched in between morris and lincoln
Thanks for answering so quickly. What have you seen from Bryan Morris? What’s he bring to the table? The media haven’t discussed him much.
your welcome. morris is a typical first round rhp type arm. big time arm in terms of velo and a real good breaking ball. his issue will be with command and learning how to pitch, as well as possibly improving his third pitch, the change up.
media probably hasnt discussed much cuz he didnt really pitch much with us. he had bicep tendinitis and then had foot surgery. he could be a good one tho
you shold have seen dejuan play in high school here in pittsburgh, that team was the best team this citys had in a long time, pitts legit this year but they always collapse partly because there to physical in the tournament and those refs arent big east refs and arent used to there physical nature.
Everyone is rightly giving love to shows like The Office and 24, but for all you who are looking for new TV to check out, give Dexter a try. It’s a fantastic show.
I always watch Dexter with my girlfriend. Most of the time that’s no problem, but I got myself in some trouble during Season 2. My girlfriend absolutely hated Lila; she gets so involved with the shows that she thinks of the characters as like real people. She would get mad at Dexter for giving up on Rita. So of course when they showed Lila naked and I’m sitting there staring and obviously enjoying it, she got really mad! Hah.
I’m pretty excited about 24 tonight. Last season was awful, but this one is a lot better already. The whole thing with Dubaku (or however you spell it) caring so much about his girlfriend seems kinda cheesy, though.
By the way, I highly recommend checking out this site if you’re a 24 fan. It lists all the people Jack has killed over the series and how. It’s ridiculous how many people he’s offed. [For ridiculous body counts, nothing will ever top the end of “Commando.” My friends and I have counted the bodies several times and while we disagree about some of the particulars, Arnold takes out at least 72 people in the last 20 minutes.]
-Cory (wish I could figure out how to get my profile to change my display name)
I have no idea why the link didn’t close. It showed up right in the preview box.
The site was: http://www.bauercount.com
Heroes is a favorite here! It is much better this season then last. I don’t know if I’m going to like the actor who plays Sylar (Zachary Quinto) playing Mr. Spock in the next Star Trek movie.

l love dexter and weeds. i think showtime really has unique shows, check out the new series, unites states of tara and secret diary of a callgirl. since we are talking baseball, has anyone seen eastbound and down on hbo? it is a little politically incorrect, but i think that is what makes it funny.
as far as the yankees, it really makes me sick that they buy all of their players instead of developing them like other teams. all of that money spent and they still can’t win a world series!
Why anyone would come onto this blog just to voice their displeasure over something the author had no control over blows my mind. Mr. Mosko doesn’t have to do this, but he is, and personally I think it’s great that he is taking time out of his day to do it.
If you don’t like the move that’s fine, there are numerous message boards, chat rooms, and radio stations to voice your opinion to.
Give him a chance to do his thing, if you’re a true Pirates fan you want him to succeed like I and many other Pirates fans think he is more than capable of.
Keep up the good work man, don’t let the haters get you down.
Over 200 DVDs? Yow! And now you’ve got to buy them all over again in Blu-ray format, right ?
Daniel I am a long time suffering Pirate fan who thinks that your blog is a great idea.
My question for you is about your conditioning.
Rumors abounded last year that Pirate management was not happy with it. How did you feel about that?
We’ve all read reports that Capps and Garzalny are in great shape this year…Is that something that makes an impression on a young player like yourself.
I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this.
Hey Mosk – do yourself a favor and pick up ‘The Shield’ on dvd or at iTunes. It is one intense tv show. Looking forward to your blog throughout the season. Good luck in ’09.
hey cory- yea i am a huge fan of dexter. and lila was basically a ho, and they put her in there for nothing but that. to be naked and sleazy. this season of 34 is much better, and i cant wait to see where it goes. i also need you to tell me how to get spaces in posts. i have the spaces but it doesnt show up when i post them.
oh and i will definitely be visiting that website tonight to find out the kill count.
clarke i can only imagine. he throws around college players. what is he gonna do to high school players
julie i dont know much about star trek, but sylar is definitely an eerie character. and i feel like last season really set up this past season
uci i do agree that showtime does a pretty good job with their shows. they dont have entourage, but they have a bunch of good ones. i will have to check those out, problem is that i dont have showtime. you and me both on the yankees. i hate it.
shamtown thanks for the kind words. i really appreciate your comment. i couldnt agree with you more. im a good person, and i dont need to deal with that. it all works out in the end tho.
demond dont even get me started. i hate the idea of that. im gonna keep my classics and use blu ray for the new releases and maybe a few classics like willy wonka
jpbucco keep the faith, things will get better. i promise. i was unaware that the pirates were unhappy with my conditioning. i know that there were rumors going around about it. but last year i was actually the skinniest i have been since high school. i dont really understand where stuff like that comes from. my body broke down on me but it wasnt a direct result of conditioning. this year however i had a full year under my belt of knowing what it takes. and i really killed it this offseason. im in phenomenal shape right now and anybody on the pirates managerial staff can attest to that.
capps is a good friend of mine and i know that he works his tail off, hes just a bigger guy. i know that tom didnt work as hard last offseason, but this year he is in great shape. so good for him. it does make an impression, but i am also someone that takes my training very seriously and i work out because i want to be the best i can be, not becaouse somebody else is working hard. it does provide some inspiration tho.
so many of my friends have told me to check out the shield. maybe ill finally have to pull the trigger
hey mang. have you gotten the chance to see rinku and dinesh pitch yet? i think they may be the real deal.
I like shows on the MLB Network. I hope to hear more about you and your progress on this channel.
Aaron

i have gotten the chance. we throw with them everyday. they are still very raw and have alot to learn. even though they finished 1-2 in the million dollar arm competition, i dont know that either posesses a million dollar arm. they both work very hard and are great kids tho. i would love to see them make it
Oh yay! Another Clemson person! I go to Clemson now, I’m a freshman. I am so excited you went there! I love it here!
Anyway, I don’t really watch any of thse shows. I watch How I Met Your Mother, American Idol, and The Office. Also Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter, but those are different.

The fact that you refused to respond to my legitimate, reasonably stated question tells me all I need to know about you.
Keep watching T.V. while the other top 10 picks bust their tails making it to the bigs.

thats posted above. the fact that you cant read tells me all i need to know about you. please dont come onto my blog and put me down. i bust my ***. ask anybody in the pirates organization about what kind of shape im in right now
Daniel, Its good to hear that you are healthy and in good shape! I always check on the kids I worked with in LL. This blog at least lets me tell you we are pulling for you. Hows the folks? Tell them we said hello. And how could you not mention Two and a Half Men!
The best TV show in a long time is Lost. That show is so incredible, and it’s just getting better and better.
http://kaybee.mlblogs.com
mr bauchman,
long time. i hope everything is well back in sunny california. thanks for stopping by my blog. make sure to tell mike that i said hi. the folks are good, they live in the middle of nowhere south carolina now. i miss california to be quite honest. i will let them know you said hi. two and a half men is a hilarious show, good call. im sorry i left that one out
Touche’ it was buried in another post.
Best of luck to you…from ALL Pirate fans.
thanks jp. yea for some reason the spacing isnt showing up in my actual posts even though its their when im typing my responses. im also trying to respond to everybody so some responses can get clumped together.
however i just added a new post with an apology. so no hard feelings
